Memorial Day is Monday
Most of the kids I talk to do not know what Memorial Day is for. Some think it is for veterans – some don’t even know that.
Memorial day is in remembrance of the millions of men and women who have died serving their country.
I served in the Navy – on a ship removing Marines at the debacle of Vietnam – and later in submarines. Our son Ian is on a path to join the Army or Navy elite forces. He feels a strong pull to serve.
Whatever your thoughts and feelings are about war and our military – just remember it is the men and women who have died that give you the freedom and the right to even have those feelings and be able to express them freely. They are why we are the most free nation in the world and it is also why so many people risk their lives to come here.
Please tell your children what this day means – show them pictures of war – and let them understand the relation between freedom and fighting for it.

I have taught my children and grandchildren what Memorial Day means to me and this country. I don’t always agree where we send our military, but I will always support our troops and their families. I pray for them every night. Thank you for serving our country.

Thanks Linda! I agree that there are times I wonder what in the world our govt is thinking!
