Good news and sad news – and camps…

Good new first. Shelly’s big birthday is on Thursday! I can’t tell you just how big – but I can tell you we have been married 25 years Sept 1!

Help us celebrate her birthday by writing a nice comment to this post. She would appreciate that! Just tell her how you have helped you, a child, or made you laugh – whatever. That would be very nice!

A few years ago her birthday was on a horse show. We got 48 cupcakes and all through the day we had a different person take a cupcake to her and wish her happy birthday! That was fun!

And now the sad news…
Our best friend of 14 years Pete – (For Pete’s Sake is his real name) just got tired and left us on Father’s Day. We are all hurting and he will be sorely missed. But – he is in a much better place and able to run like the wind again!

And finally – the little tykes camp is next Monday! And it is full.

The beg/intermediate camp for July 12-16 has room for one more. And remember if you are bringing someone for single days we need to know which days so we do not have too many!

Thanks for thinking of us, and being with us during these sad and happy times. You are greatly appreciated!

We have had so many request for the one day camps that we changed the July 12th Camp so that you can come all week or just one day!
July 12th to 16th

A WEEK OF FUN DAYS RIDING CAMP:
Monday – Ring work Western, English, Jumping and Barrels.
Tuesday – Trail Ride with Obstacle Course.
Wednesday – Vaulting. (limit 6 riders)
Thursday – Ring work Western, English, Jumping and Barrels.
Friday – Games with horses. (limit 6 riders)
9:00 to 3:00 – $3OO.00 for the week or $75.00 a day – Ages 7 and up.

One of my favorite boys!

Spring and warmer days are finally here! The wintry weather seemed like it would never leave and now, all the trees are green, the flowers are blooming and our lake is full of baby geese and ducks! I love this time of year! All the horses are losing their winter coats and no longer look like Woolly Mammoths.

We have been working very hard on the farm, spreading grass seed, picking up rocks, building a bunny pen and mending fences. The horses are being very patient, waiting for the grass to grow. Today we put Dixie and Val in the front pasture and it was so fun watching them run through the fields and flowers!

Don’t forget to sign up for summer camp! The first two camps are almost full! There are only 1 or 2 spots left.

Christmas Eve Snow?

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the stable, all the creatures were stirring, those that were able;
The horses were talking as they often do, when we aren’t there to hear them and neither are you.

Preacher

Preacher, ears back, trying to act tough, was whispering something to Rascal who had had quite enough.
Scout sang Jingle Bells at the top of his range, Hunter’s head moved in time though he thought him quite strange.

Rocky

Rocky and Dusty outside were really okay, cause they had all night to eat all of that hay.
Mac was snug in his place right next to Kokie, and Lex on the end hummed White Christmas in a low key.

Midnight

Midnight knew very well which horse was here first, and laughed out at Callie – whose plans of revenge she rehearsed.
Sugar was sad cause he didn’t yet fit in, heard Petie thumping Drummer Boy and gladly joined in.

Cody

Cody looked across the aisle happy to see, that Digger made much more of a mess than did he;
And up at the house minis were eating again, happy to get out of the cold and the rain.

Big Monster!

When out in the paddock there arose such a clatter, everyone’s ears perked up – what on Earth is the matter?
First they could hear the thump of big paws, and smell the bad breath and see the big claws;

They begin to get nervous and all started to whinny, (all except for Hunter who was a bit skinny);
And to their surprise out on the road, there appeared a small waif carrying a big load;

Could it be they asked was this the big day? Had Santa really come would they get extra hay?
And into the barn with a smile and big mutt; and arms full of carrots and candy and stuff,

Was their favorite Santa coming to see them? On Christmas morning, she wanted to free them!
From the long night of their talking, singing and sore feet –
Shelly wished them Merry Christmas and cried – its time to eat!

Halter/Showmanship Clinic at High Country Stables

March 20th – 5:00 to 8:00 – Halter and Showmanship Clinic with AQHA trainer Bryan Carlisle. The clinic will start at 5:00 so please arrive early to have your horse spit and polished on time. Cost is $35.00. The clinic is limited to 12 riders. There is no extra charge to bring your own horse. Please email shelly@highcountrystables.com to reserve your spot.

Peanut, our miniature potbellied pig, has grown and earned himself his own pen/stall! He still thinks he is a dog and likes to play with chew toys and have his belly rubbed. He especially likes Rowdy!

We have only two spots left for Spring Break Camp so please let me know if you would like a place reserved!

I would like to thank everyone who has recommended our lesson program. We have gotten so busy I am on the lookout for another lesson horse!

Spring Horseback Riding Camps Dallas, Ga

Spring is just around the corner and everyone at the farm is more than ready for warmer weather, especially the horses.

What's that white stuff?

February 18th – Fun Day – 9:00 to 3:00 – $50.00 a rider, includes lunch! Ride, games, hayrides and crafts!
April 6th to 10th – Spring Break Camp – 9:00 to 1:00 – $275.00 for the week! Instructional riding – Western or English, crafts, team building and leadership activities!
We had a great trip to Florida and Universal Studios. It was hard to leave 80 degrees and sun!

T’was the night before Christmas and all through the stables, all the creatures were stirring, those that were able.

The horses were talking as they often do, when we aren’t there to hear them and neither are you.

Willie laughed at a joke he make about Preacher, who was trying to bite Hope if he only could reach her.

Dusty sang “A neigh in manger” and Deck the Stalls”, while Rowdy’s head moved in time with it all.

Jewel, out in the cold wished she were in, and Blend in their stall wore a big grin.

Petie was snug in the stall that he shared, with Zero who tried to look like he cared.

Midnight knew very well which horse was here first, and laughed out a Hunter – whose plan of revenge he rehearsed.

Java was dancing and bobbing his chin, heard Scout humming carols and gladly joined in.

Cody, the reiner, was spinning with glee, and Oni the runner was dreaming of speed.

And then there was Lightning just trying to sleep, cause he had reputation in the daylight to keep.

Willie was Willie what else can you say, and Rocky was grinding his teeth in that way.

All blanketed and snug in her stall was Callie, then came the Carlisle’s horses, the pig and the minis.

What’s happening at High Country Stables in Dallas Ga.

We had a great time at Shelton Elementary’s Fall Festival. Ian brought his lasso and steer head and taught the kids how to rope a calf. Nicole and I raffled off two free riding lessons. The winners were Katie W and Nikki M. We look forward to spending an hour with them and introducing them to the wonderful world of horses.

Bryan and Scarlet, with her horse Jose, are off to Ohio for the Congress World Quarter Horse Show. Everyone at the barn wishes them the best of luck!

Our hearts go out to Lyndsay! Although she has only been at the barn a few weeks we were very sad to say goodbye to her horse Max. Max collicked Friday night and though the mare had a big heart her body just gave out. Everyone will miss her!

Atlanta Horse Camps, Clinton Anderson Training

Well we did it! The Carlisle’s and their horses are tucked into every knock and cranny of the farm but they are here! They have some beautiful Quarter Horses and everyone is welcome to stop by to say hello!

Ian and I had a great time at the three day Clinton Anderson advanced training camp in Chatsworth Ga. Ian and Maureen audited from the bleachers while Cody and I worked three full days together to make me a better trainer and Cody a better trained horse! We were all glad to get home – but it was a lot of fun and well worth the trip! Anybody interested in learning some training techniques if I put together a Saturday clinic?

Our last horse show of the season is October 25th at Wild Horse Park. It is our annual Charity Show and if anyone has an item or service they would like to donate please let me know and I will be happy to come pick it up! We also have a costume class and it is well worth the trip to the park to see the riders and horses all dressed up in their Halloween attire.

Our Fall/Winter Camp Schedule:

Fun Days - November 4th & December 22nd – 9:00 to 4:00. All ages – $50.00 for the day, which includes lunch. This is now limited to 15 kids and fills up fast so reserve your spot quickly!

3 Day Camps - November 24th to 26th & December 29th to 31st – all ages – 9:00 to 4:00 – $175.00 for the day, which includes lunch. Camp limited to 10 riders.

Spring Break Camp - April 6th to 10th – all ages – 9:00 to 4:00 – $350.00 for the week. Limited to 10 riders.
